Weekend Streaming: Week 19

Searching for five players to help you win your Week 19 matchup.

Welcome back to another weekend streaming article where I select five players based on hot streaks, pitching/team matchups, or a combination of things to help fantasy owners acquire cheap, low-roster rate (35% or below) production to help win the last two days of their weekly matchups. This week, I’ll be highlighting five players who have been rolling production-wise heading into early August.

Let’s dive into Week 19…

Joey Cantillo, LHP, Cleveland Guardians

Cantillo, 25, has turned in a fantastic 3.78 FIP through a mix of 6 starts and 21 bullpen appearances this season. Since entering the rotation, the FIP has dropped to 3.18 and the K% has remained up at the 30% clip. He generates plenty of whiff (32%) and CSW (33%), not to mention he’s coming off a season-high 9 strikeout outing and a Gallow Pole, Golden Goal, and King Cole performance.

Brad Lord, LHP, Washington Nationals

Lord, another 25-year-old southpaw who’s excelled in both starting and relief roles, has turned in a 3.42 ERA/3.55 FIP through 79 innings. He is also coming off a season-high strikeout performance. Lord, over his last three starts, owns a 3.21 ERA, and the uptick in Ks is really intriguing. He faces a very middling San Francisco Giants team that hasn’t produced well against LHPs all year — their abysmal .212 AVG and .619 OPS rank last in MLB.

Rostered: 2% (Yahoo)

Lenyn Sosa, INF, Chicago White Sox

Sosa, 25, can be deployed at a variety of positions — seeing time at 1B, 2B, and 3B this week alone — and the production we’ve seen the bat turn in is a big reason why his roster rate has skyrocketed lately. He’s enjoyed a modest .754 OPS, 107 wRC+ campaign but has started to really heat up since mid-July, grabbing hits in ten of his last eleven games, including a nine-game hit streak he’s currently riding. Over that span? 14-for-32 (.438), 4 HR, 4 BB/3 K, and four multi-hit games. He’s also homered in two straight. Sosa is a solid bet for an injection of offense into your lineup.

Rostered: 30% (Yahoo)

Mickey Moniak, OF, Colorado Rockies

Moniak, 27, has been a good buy-low option in free agency all year for fantasy GMs, with a nifty 115 wRC+ and 17 bombs in just under 100 games. Since July 11th, the former 1st overall pick has slashed .308/.338/.536 with 8 XBHs, six multi-hit games, and a 127 wRC+. In his last three games against the Diamondbacks, whom he faces this weekend, Moniak has gone 4-for-12 (.333) with a double and 2 HR.

Rostered: 22% (Yahoo)

Alek Thomas, OF, Arizona Diamondbacks

The youngster is finding his groove!! Thomas is one of the most dynamic players in baseball when healthy and hitting, and he’s been checking both boxes of late. This season overall has been “meh”, with a 94 wRC+ and .701 OPS, but he is in line to set a career-high in nearly every major category like his slash line, wOBA, and so on. He’s been red hot in August, turning in a .474/.500/.789 slash line with a 250 wRC+ on 56% hard hit and 11% barrel rates. He’s a stolen base threat, too.

Rostered: 1% (Yahoo)
